Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, a prominent scholar and founder of the Afrocentricity theory, is a Professor of Africology at Temple University and President of the Molefi Kete Asante Institute for Afrocentric Studies. Fields-Black, a history professor at Carnegie Mellon University, specializes in the trans-national history of West African rice farmers and enslaved laborers on rice plantations in the South Carolina and Georgia Lowcountry. Her upcoming book, COMBEE, provides a detailed account of Harriet Tubman’s Combahee River Raid and the voices of enslaved people who sought freedom during the Civil War. Fields-Black's work uses interdisciplinary methods to uncover the lives, cultures, and technologies of West African and African Diaspora communities.
